Supraspinatus Tendinosis and Mineralization: Same Disease Two Faces?

نویسنده

چکیده

Key points • Supraspinatus tendinosis is characterized by an enlarged tendon insertion with myxomatous degeneration revealed by fluid intensity on MR imaging, and no inflammatory changes. • Supraspinatus tendinosis in dogs shows identical clinical presentation to the previously recognized calcifying supraspinatus tendinopathy, except the lack of a macroscopic calcified lesion. • The enlarged tendon may interfere with the function of the biceps tendon. • Surgical debridement of supraspinatus tendinosis may be of higher importance in dogs than in humans due to the anatomical arrangement of the canine cranial shoulder.

Reliability of MRI assessment of supraspinatus tendinopathy.

OBJECTIVE To determine the interobserver and intraobserver reliability of the interpretation of MRIs for supraspinatus tendinosis. METHODS In the interobserver trial, the MRIs of 52 athletes' shoulders were observed by 3 observers on one occasion within a 2-month period. All 52 images were read by the most experienced musculoskeletal radiologist on 3 different occasions on separate days witho...

Using nitric oxide to treat tendinopathy.

Nitric oxide (NO) is a small free radical generated by a family of enzymes, the nitric oxide synthases (NOSs). Following injury to a tendon, NO is induced by all three isoforms of NOS and NOS activity is also upregulated in tendinopathy. In animal models when NOS activity is inhibited by competitive inhibitors of NOS, tendon healing is reduced. When additional NO is added, tendon healing is enh...

The effect of mechanical load on degenerated soft tissue.

OBJECTIVE To present a form of therapeutic mechanical load, Graston Technique (GT)-an instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization method) in three case studies including supraspinatus tendinosis, Achilles tendinosis, and plantar fasciosis. METHOD In each case study, case history and functional testing confirmed the presence of a condition characterized by degenerated soft tissue. Each condit...

Relationship between chronic pathologies of the supraspinatus tendon and the long head of the biceps tendon: systematic review

BACKGROUND Chronic supraspinatus tendinopathy is a common clinical problem that causes functional and labor disabilities in the population. It is the most frequent cause of shoulder pain. This pathology may be frequently associated to the affectation of the long head of biceps tendon (LHBT), the main stabilizer of the glenohumeral joint together with the supraspinatus. The main aim of this work...
